Air Brake Course & Endorsement

Earn the “Q” endorsement required to operate any air-brake-equipped commercial vehicle in Alberta.

Air brake systems use compressed air to activate a vehicle's braking components. Because most heavy commercial vehicles rely on them, this program is a required step toward a Class 1 licence.

How the Air Brake program works

Four steps take you from theory to a fully endorsed licence.

1

Classroom training

A minimum of 6.5 hours of theory from a licensed school. You receive the official Air Brake Manual: A Guide for Students.

2

Practical training

An instructor demonstration followed by supervised practice of the air brake pre-trip inspection.

3

Practical assessment

A one-on-one practical test completed within 15 minutes. One re-assessment is permitted on a separate day if needed.

4

Knowledge test

A 30-question test at a registry agent — 25 correct to pass. Success adds the “Q” endorsement to your licence.
